We’ve all had those days when we feel hungry all day. During these days, it can be difficult to keep your calories count in check. The good news is there are plenty of healthy low-calorie foods that are both tasty and filling. These foods are perfect if you are trying to maintain your weight loss or if you are trying to live a healthy lifestyle.
The three nutritional components of weight loss:
- Lean protein
- Water
- Fiber
Filling Whole Grains
Cut out the sugary breakfast, such as cereal and instant oatmeal packages and swap them for filling whole grains like oatmeal and brown rice. Looking for a satisfying hearty breakfast, cook your oatmeal with a non-dairy based milk such as coconut milk or almond milk and add fruits and nuts.
Calorie Burning Greens
Yes! There are veggies that require more energy to digest than they contain. For example, zucchini is only 20 calories a cup but takes about 50 calories to digest; this means you are burning 30 calories simply by eating this vegetable. Other low calories greens include arugula, broccoli, cauliflower, and asparagus.
Low Calories Fruits
One of the most popular summer fruits is watermelon! Not only is it tasty, but it’s also good for you. Two cups of watermelon contain half your daily vitamin C for less than 100 calories. Not a fan of watermelon? Try chowing down on some apples, oranges or grapefruit.
Eat Your Legumes
Studies have shown that beans are a great source of dietary fibers. Consuming the dietary fibers are great for the prevention of chronic diseases. Not only are beans a great source of dietary fiber, but they are also inexpensive. Black beans, chickpeas, red kidney beans and edamame are all incredibly versatile beans you can stock up on and create delicious meals.
Switch to Soup
Broth-based soups filled with fiber rich veggies are a great way to ensure you consume fewer calories during mealtime. If you are heading out to eat at a restaurant, consider purchasing a broth-based soup that will fill your belly up before you can even think about ordering dessert.
